Ultimate 2 Week Vietnam Itinerary: Culture, Beaches & City Life

Planning a Vietnam trip? This ultimate 2-week Vietnam itinerary blends rich culture, stunning limestone karsts, vibrant cities, lantern-lit towns, and relaxing beaches. From Hanoi’s Old Quarter and Halong Bay cruise to Da Nang, Hoi An, Phu Quoc islands, and Ho Chi Minh City, this guide covers daily plans, must-do experiences, travel tips, food spots, and budget insights—ideal for couples and first-time visitors.

Vietnam is one of those rare countries where culture, chaos, beaches, food, and landscapes come together beautifully. This 2-week Vietnam itinerary is designed for travelers who want to see it all without much rushing — historic cities, lantern towns, beach vibes, theme parks, and island sunsets.

This route covers Hanoi → Da Nang → Phu Quoc → Ho Chi Minh City, with enough downtime to actually enjoy Vietnam, not just tick places off a list.

Days 1–4: Hanoi – Old Quarters, Cafés & Local Life

Hanoi is a city where tradition and modern life blend effortlessly — bustling streets, centuries-old temples, and cafés tucked into colonial buildings. From the energy of the Old Quarter to peaceful walks around Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi offers a vibrant first glimpse into Vietnam’s culture and everyday life.

🏡 Stay: Airbnb in Old Quarter

Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi | Easy Exploration

  • Arrival and hotel/Airbnb check-in
  • Short walk around the Old Quarter
  • Try local street food like pho, banh mi, and egg coffee

This day is intentionally slow to recover from travel and get comfortable with Hanoi’s busy streets.

  • Some Famous cafes and restaurants in Old Quarter Hanoi :
  • Cafe Giảng – Iconic spot known as the birthplace of Hanoi’s famous egg coffee (a must-try).
  • The Note Coffee – Fun, colorful café covered in sticky notes with travel messages — great for photos and coconut lattes. Bancông Cafe & Restaurant – Stylish café-restaurant blending coffee, food, and a relaxed vibe.
  • Hidden Gem Cafe Hanoi – Highly rated cozy café tucked in the Old Quarter.
  • Leva Cafe – Cozy café known for egg coffee and relaxed vibes
  • Banh Mi 25 – One of Hanoi’s most talked-about sandwich spots (not a café but great for a quick snack between coffee hops).

Day 2: Halong Bay Day Trip

  • Full-day guided trip to Halong Bay booked via Klook. We experienced Halong Bay through the Ambassador Day Cruise, and it was one of the most comfortable ways to see the bay. The cruise took us past stunning limestone karsts, included a well-organised lunch onboard, and offered optional activities like kayaking and cave visits — all done at a relaxed, well-paced rhythm that never felt rushed.

➡️ I’ll cover Detailed Halong Bay itinerary in a separate blog

Day 3: Incense Village, Train Street & Beer Street

  • Morning: Visit Quang Phu Cau for vibrant photos
  • Afternoon: Coffee experience at Hanoi Train Street
  • Evening: Drinks and street food at Ta Hien Beer Street

This day beautifully combines culture, Instagram moments, and Hanoi’s nightlife. We started the day with a morning visit to Quang Phu Cau mainly for photos — while it’s visually striking, it’s skippable if you’re short on time. The evening was far more exciting at Hanoi Train Street, where we booked our table via Cafe 1990s Hanoi. 📞 Lily: +84 934 050 191
📍 Location: Hanoi Train Street (South Section) There are 2 train streets north and south; the south one is less rushed.
Highly recommend pre-booking if you’re visiting. Arriving about 40 minutes early helped us get the best seats, and a smoother experience. We wrapped up the night at Ta Hien Beer Street, buzzing with energy, street food, cheap beer, and a vibrant, lively atmosphere that truly captures Hanoi after dark.

Day 4: Café Hopping & Night Market

  • Morning cafés around Hoan Kiem Lake
  • Local shopping and souvenir hunting
  • Evening visit to the Hanoi Night Market (only from Friday to Sunday)

A relaxed day focused on food, walking, and soaking in the city vibe. This day was all about slowing down — starting with café hopping around Hoan Kiem Lake, followed by local shopping and souvenir hunting in the nearby streets. In the evening (Friday to Sunday only), the Hanoi Night Market comes alive with stalls, street food, and live energy, making it a perfect end to a relaxed day of walking, eating, and soaking in Hanoi’s everyday vibe.

Alternatively, you can opt for a day tour to Ninh Binh, often called “Halong Bay on land.” This scenic region is known for dramatic limestone karsts rising from rice fields and rivers, with boat rides through caves and countryside landscapes — a great choice if you prefer nature and quieter surroundings over a cruise.

Days 5–8: Da Nang – Beaches, Bridges & Day Trips

🏨 Stay: Santorini House And Coffee Hotel for 2 nights, Mercure Danang French Village Bana Hills for 1 night and Phúc Long Luxury Đà Nẵng for 1 night

Day 5: Fly to Da Nang | Beach & Bridge Night

  • Flight from Hanoi to Da Nang
  • Relax at My Khe Beach
  • Visit Dragon Bridge
    • Fire & water show on weekends
  • After a short flight from Hanoi to Da Nang, we kept the day easy by relaxing at My Khe Beach. In the evening, we visited the iconic Dragon Bridge, famous for its fire and water show on weekends, and wrapped up the night exploring nearby local markets like Son Tra Night Market perfect for street food and local shopping.

Day 6: Day Trip to Hoi An

  • Full-day visit to Hoi An
  • Old Town walk, lantern boats, cafés, and shopping

A full-day visit to Hoi An is a perfect mix of culture and charm. Spend time wandering through the Old Town, enjoying riverside cafés, shopping for souvenirs and tailored outfits, and taking a lantern boat ride in the evening. You can also add the popular basket round boat ride at the nearby coconut village, making the day even more memorable and uniquely Hoi An.

➡️ Hoi An detailed guide is covered in another blog

Day 7: Ba Na Hills Experience

  • Check out from Da Nang
  • Visit Ba Na Hills
  • Cable car ride, Golden Bridge, and French Village

Check out from Da Nang and head to Ba Na Hills for a full day of sightseeing. Enjoy the scenic cable car ride, visit the iconic Golden Bridge, and explore the charming French Village, with an overnight stay at Mercure Danang French Village Bana Hills to experience the hill station atmosphere after the day crowds thin out.

➡️ Ba Na Hills itinerary covered in a separate blog

Day 8: Spa Day & Marble Mountains

Check out from Ba Na Hills and drive back to Da Nang (approximately 1 hour). The day is best kept slow with a traditional Vietnamese massage or spa session — we chose Panda Spa Da Nang, which is slightly more expensive than others but offers excellent service and a very relaxing experience. Later, you can either unwind at a café or visit Marble Mountains, which we did, making this a calm, recovery-focused day before heading to the islands. We stayed at Phúc Long Luxury Đà Nẵng on this day.

Days 9–12: Phu Quoc – Theme Parks, Islands & Sunsets

📍 Base: 2 nights in north Phu Quoc and 2 nights in sunset town south Phu Quoc

Day 9: Fly to Phu Quoc | Grand World Evening

  • Fly from Da Nang to Phu Quoc
  • Stay in North Phu Quoc
  • Evening at Grand World Phu Quoc
    • Venice-style canal ride
    • Night shows and cafés

Fly from Da Nang to Phu Quoc and stay in North Phu Quoc for easy access to attractions. The evening was spent at Grand World Phu Quoc, enjoying a Venice-style canal ride, visiting the quirky Teddy Bear Museum, and having dinner by the lively riverfront. With night shows and cafés lighting up the area, it made for a special celebration — and since it was our anniversary eve, we splurged on a stay at Radisson Blu Resort Phu Quoc, though there are also excellent Airbnb options close to Grand World for different budgets.

Day 10: VinWonders & Beach Sunset

Start the day with a morning visit to VinWonders Phu Quoc — it’s best to pre-book tickets (we recommend the combo ticket with buggy ride) as the park is massive and this saves a lot of walking. I’ll cover VinWonders in detail in a separate blog. In the evening, unwind with a beautiful sunset at Bai Dai Beach, which was directly accessible from our resort. There’s also Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc, but we chose to skip it as the day was already quite packed.

Day 11: Spa Morning & Sunset Town

  • Before checkout, we took it easy with a pool or spa session and then headed to Sunset Town Phu Quoc by afternoon. The evening was perfect for a relaxed stroll around the iconic Kiss Bridge, followed by spectacular shows like Symphony of the Sea and Kiss of the Sea. After dinner, a fun buggy ride around the town wrapped up the night — and if you’re craving familiar flavours, you’ll find several Indian restaurants in Sunset Town, making it both convenient and comforting.
  • Maa Indian Restaurant (A172 Đ. Amalfi)
Maharaja Lounge (VEN57 Sunset Town, beside Starbucks)
Apnaa Indian Dhaba Bistro (A148 Amalfi)
The King of Spices (Ven47 Sunset Town)
  • Swad Kitched -3 (55Đ. Amalfi)

Day 12: Sea Walking & Cable Car Ride

The highlight of this trip for us was the sea walking activity — walking underwater surrounded by fishes with no swimming required, just following simple instructions. It’s truly one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences we’ll never forget. While optional 3-island or 4-island group tours are available which includes sea walking along with island tours and lunch, we skipped them due to fatigue and focused only on sea walking — if you’re interested, you can comment and we’ll share the booking link.

In the evening, we took a ride on the Hon Thom Cable Car — the world’s longest sea-crossing cable car — and the experience felt absolutely surreal with endless ocean views below. The ticket also included access to Hon Thom Island, where you’ll find a beach and a water park, making it great value for money (just note that ticket counters usually close by 3 PM, so pre-booking is recommended).

Days 13–15: Ho Chi Minh City – History, Cafés & Shopping

📍 Base: Liberty Central Saigon Riverside Hotel in district 1

Day 13: Arrival & Easy Evening

Fly from Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City and keep the day relaxed with café hopping and local shopping. We visited Vincom Center for brands like Uniqlo, which was slightly cheaper than India but not by a huge margin. For quick souvenirs and gifts, 7‑Eleven Vietnam turned out to be surprisingly useful. By evening, cravings kicked in and we headed to an Indian restaurant — a comforting end to the day when you’ve been missing familiar flavours.

Day 14: City Highlights & Night Tour

  • Spend the day exploring Ho Chi Minh City’s historic heart, starting with the beautiful Saigon Central Post Office and the nearby Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon. We also visited the War Remnants Museum, followed by the Independence Palace, which gives great insight into Vietnam’s history. Shopping was done at Saigon Centre and Saigon Square; we skipped Ben Thanh Market but made a special stop at Naga Shoes (district 3). The evening ended with a relaxing night bus tour, followed by a final dinner and coffee before catching our early morning flight back to India.

✈️ About Flying VietJet (Honest Note)

We booked budget airline VietJet.
Overall experience was smooth, except one issue—our Phu Quoc → Ho Chi Minh City flight was preponed, which caused some confusion and chaos at the airport. Other than that, the journey was hassle-free.

SIM Card & Finances in Vietnam

Getting connected in Vietnam is easy and affordable. eSIMs work really well in Vietnam. You can install it before leaving India or after landing, activate it instantly, and stay connected the moment you switch on your phone. It’s perfect for navigation, ride-hailing apps, translations, and bookings—no queues, no SIM swapping. Just make sure your phone supports eSIM and choose a plan with enough data for your trip. You can book it on klook.

In terms of finances, Vietnam is largely cash-friendly, especially for local markets, cafés, and taxis, so carrying some Vietnamese Dong is useful. Cards are widely accepted at malls, hotels, and bigger restaurants, but having a mix of cash + international debit/credit cards makes travel smooth and stress-free. You can carry USD as back up currency.

If you’re looking for a well-paced Vietnam travel itinerary that covers cities, beaches, and islands, this 15-day plan has you covered. With internal flights, day plans, and sufficient downtime, it’s ideal for first-time travelers.
