A complete guide to Bana Hills, Vietnam—how to plan a day trip or stay overnight at Mercure Bana Hills French Village. From the Golden Bridge at sunrise to cable cars, French Village, Indian food, and peaceful evenings above the clouds.
Some places feel touristy.
Some feel magical.
And then there’s Bana Hills — a place where clouds float past castle windows, mornings begin above the world, and sunsets feel straight out of a fairytale.
Located just about an hour away from Da Nang, Bana Hills can be done in two very different ways:
✔️ as a packed one-day trip, or
✔️ as a slow, dreamy overnight stay at the only hotel on the hills.
Both are great — but the experience? Very different.
Getting There: The Journey Sets the Mood
Whether you’re visiting for a day or staying overnight, the journey begins early. From Da Nang, the easiest way to reach Bana Hills is via Grab or a private cab. Expect a scenic drive with winding roads and lush greenery before you reach the base station.
And then comes the highlight even before you reach the top — the cable car ride. Known as one of the longest cable car rides in the world, it slowly lifts you above dense forests, waterfalls, and drifting clouds. Phones come out instantly. Silence follows. It’s that kind of view.
Bana Hills as a One-Day Trip (Fast but Fabulous)
If you’re short on time, a day trip still gives you a solid taste of Bana Hills.
Start early — around 7:00 AM from Da Nang — so you can beat the crowds. Once you reach the top, head straight to the star attraction.
Golden Bridge by Morning
By 9:00 AM, make your way to the iconic Golden Bridge. Suspended in the clouds and held by giant stone hands, this bridge is every bit as surreal as it looks in photos. Early morning light, misty air, and cooler weather make it the best time to be here.
French Village & Fun Stops
From there, wander through the French Village — cobbled streets, pastel buildings, old-town Europe vibes, and countless photo spots. Add some thrill with the Alpine Coaster, and just enjoy getting lost in the energy of the place.
Indian Lunch & Beer Break
By afternoon, hunger kicks in. Head to Bharat Restaurant for a comforting Indian buffet — surprisingly satisfying after all that walking.
You’ll also receive beer vouchers, which you can use at the largest brewery on the hills. A cold beer with mountain views? Yes, please.
Coffee with a View
Before heading back, stop at the famous Starbucks on the hills. Grab a coffee, soak in the views, and people-watch.
By 4:30 PM, it’s time to catch the last cable car back and return to Da Nang — tired, happy, and slightly overwhelmed.
👉 A day trip is fun, but it does feel rushed.
Staying at Bana Hills (The Real Magic)
If you want to experience Bana Hills at its most peaceful, stay overnight at Mercure Bana Hills French Village — the only hotel located on the hills.
Arrival & Check-In
Reach the Bana Hills base around 11:00 AM. Hotel guests check in at a separate Mercure desk where you:
- complete formalities
- collect vouchers
- get discounted cable car tickets (a big plus!)
Once you reach the top, hotel staff warmly welcome you and escort you to reception. Luggage stays with them while you head out to explore.
Before Room Check-In
Have lunch, try a couple of rides, and walk around — but don’t stress about photos yet. During this time, Bana Hills is still busy with day tourists.
By 2:00 PM, rooms are allotted. Freshen up, relax for a bit, and then step out again — because this is when Bana Hills transforms.
Evenings Without Crowds = Pure Bliss
As day visitors leave, the hills suddenly feel calmer, quieter, and more magical.
Now’s the time to:
- explore the French Village slowly
- visit castles and the Lunar Castle
- enjoy rides without queues
- take a dip in the indoor swimming pool
- sip coffee or grab a beer as the sky changes colors
The air feels cooler. The lights glow warmer. And for once, you’re not dodging crowds for photos.
Dinner, a good night’s sleep, and an early alarm await — because morning here is special.
Golden Bridge: When Bana Hills Truly Feels Unreal
The Golden Bridge is not just a landmark — it’s a moment.
Because we stayed overnight at Bana Hills, we had access to something day visitors usually miss: Golden Bridge in its quietest, most magical form.
We woke up early and took the first cable car at 6:00 AM from Louvre Station. As the cable car climbed higher, the world slowly disappeared below us — mist rolling in, soft light breaking through the clouds, and a calm that felt almost unreal.
When we stepped onto the Golden Bridge, it was nearly empty. No rush. No noise. Just us, the massive stone hands, and clouds floating at eye level. The bridge looked different in the early morning — softer, dreamier, and far more dramatic than during the day. The mountains slowly revealed themselves as the sun rose, and for a few minutes, it felt like time had paused.
This is the kind of experience you simply cannot get on a day trip.
After soaking it all in, return for a delicious breakfast at the hotel, enjoy the Alpine Coaster one last time, click a few final photos, and check out by 11:00–12:00 noon.
Why Staying at Bana Hills Made All the Difference
Staying at Bana Hills was honestly fabulous and completely changed how we experienced the place. Once the day tourists left, everything felt calmer — the French Village, the pathways, even the air itself.
A small but important tip if you’re planning to stay:
Don’t book the most basic room. Yes, the hotel is expensive — but places like these aren’t visits you repeat often. Upgrading your room adds to the comfort, the views, and the overall experience. When you’re already staying in the clouds, it makes sense to enjoy it properly.
Waking up above the world, watching sunrise at Golden Bridge, coming back to a relaxed breakfast — these are the moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.
Ending on a High (Quite Literally)
As we packed up and took the final cable car down, it felt like we were leaving a little world of its own behind. Bana Hills isn’t just about ticking off attractions or chasing Instagram spots — it’s about slowing down, looking around, and letting the place sink in.
Some places you visit.
Some places you remember.
Bana Hills, for us, was definitely the latter ☁️✨
